B’nai Mitzvah Program FAQ
Who is the ideal candidate for the B’nai Mitzvah program?
Any Jewish person who wants to celebrate their connection to mitzvot! Learners of all ages who do not want the commitment of a synagogue or years-long Hebrew tutoring, or anyone who wants an alternative way to prepare for and celebrate a bar mitzvah, bat mitzvah, or non-binary b-mitzvah. As we keep saying - it’s a celebration that does not require a rabbi, a synagogue, or a torah.
What does the program involve?
Like our other programs, students learn asynchronously in our learning portal with audio and written lessons. Unlike other programs, the b’nai mitzvah program also has download-and-print ceremonies and service booklets. You receive support from the Help Desk including help from caring rabbis. Since this is the best deal Darshan Yeshiva offers, you also receive bonus access to all our other programs. Lastly, there is the supportive community on Facebook.
As far as the ceremony itself, the learning and materials are self-personalized.It offers multiple ceremony options to choose from, prayers and songs in Hebrew, transliteration, English, and poetic interpretations, and are 100% gender and LGBTQ+ inclusive.
Once you feel you have learned the materials, you should plan your b’nai mitzvah!
What is the difference between this program and conversion to Judaism or lay leader training?
B'nai mitzvah is a celebration of Jewish adulthood and mitzvot, while conversion to Judaism is about a non-Jew becoming Jewish. Darshan Training is a program designed to help people who live without Jewish community to be lay-Jewish leaders. So having said all this, there are no concerns about who “accepts your b’nai mitzvah”. That’s not a thing.
You mentioned that this program is the “best deal” at Darshan Yeshiva. Why is that?
When you sign up for this program, it gives you access to all our other programs for free, including First Steps, Basics of Judaism, Torah Study Program, Jewish History, Animated Torah, Comprehensive Jewish Studies, and Darshan Training. And if you use discount code BM2023 today through July 19th, you’ll save 20% off. Make sure to use code BM2023 at checkout!
